INCHARGE FUTURES

FUTURE COMPASS

You don’t need to have your whole future

figured out. You just need somewhere to begin.

Designed primarily for young people aged 14–25, it brings together self-understanding, education, career exploration and life design to create a clearer sense of direction — without expecting someone to decide the rest of their life before they have had the chance to live it.

THERE IS MORE THAN ONE WAY TO BUILD A LIFE

At fourteen, sixteen, eighteen or twenty-two, the question can sound slightly different.

What subjects should I choose? University or apprenticeship? What could I actually do with the things I’m interested in? What am I good at? What if I don’t know what I want yet? What if the path I chose no longer feels right?

Behind all of them is often a bigger question: What kind of life might actually fit me?

Future Compass creates space to explore that question before rushing towards an answer. It is not about choosing one career and closing every other door.

It is about understanding yourself well enough to begin recognising which doors are worth opening.

WHO IS FUTURE COMPASS FOR?

Future Compass can be useful when a young person is:

  • choosing GCSEs, A levels or other qualifications

  • considering university, apprenticeships or alternative routes

  • unsure what subjects, careers or industries to explore

  • interested in many different things and struggling to narrow them down

  • finding that traditional career questionnaires do not capture who they are

  • questioning a course, degree or early career choice

  • feeling pressure to have their future worked out

  • capable and thoughtful, but unsure how their strengths translate into real possibilities

  • looking for a direction rather than a definitive answer

You do not need to arrive knowing what you want. Not knowing is often exactly where useful exploration begins.

MORE THAN A CAREERS CONVERSATION

Who are you?

Traditional career guidance often begins with the outside world: What jobs exist What grades do you need? Which course should you take?

Those questions matter. However,Future Compass begins one step earlier.

We explore what energises you, what matters to you, how do you make decisions, what kind of environments bring out your best, what comes naturally to you, what drains you, what are you curious about and ow much structure, independence, variety, challenge, stability or human connection do you want in your life among many other things.

Because a career can look right on paper and still be wrong for the person living it. Future Compass brings the person back into the decision.

WHAT WE EXPLORE

Your session is shaped around you rather than a standard career questionnaire. We explore five interconnected areas:

WHO YOU ARE

Your strengths, interests, values, natural tendencies and the things that seem to matter to you — including qualities you may not yet recognise as strengths.

IHOW YOU WORK BEST

The environments, rhythms, relationships and ways of working that help you function well.

WHAT YOU WANT FROM LIFE

Not simply What job do you want? but questions such as: What do you want your everyday life to feel like? What kind of freedom, stability, creativity, impact, income, belonging or challenge matters to you?

WORLDS YOU COULD EXPLORE

We begin connecting what we discover about you with subjects, industries, educational routes, roles and possibilities worth investigating. Not one predetermined career. A landscape of possibilities.

WHAT COMES NEXT

We turn insight into something practical. You leave knowing what deserves further exploration and with a small number of concrete next steps rather than another overwhelming list of options.

YOUR FUTURE BLUEPRINT

After the session, you receive your personalised Future Blueprint.

This is designed to capture the patterns and possibilities we uncovered so that you can return to them as your thinking develops.

A map for exploration,

not a prescription.

A DIFFERENT WAY OF UNDERSTANDING YOURSELF

My work combines coaching, psychology, education and life-design thinking with careful attention to the young person's own lived experience.

Where appropriate and where you choose to include them, I can also draw upon reflective frameworks such as Human Design and astrology as additional lenses for exploration.

I do not use these tools to determine someone's future, diagnose personality or tell a young person what career they should pursue.

Instead, they can generate questions and hypotheses around areas such as decision-making, motivation, working rhythms, natural strengths, independence, relationships with external expectations and the conditions in which someone may thrive.

Those ideas are then explored against the most important source of information of all: the young person's own experience of being themselves.

FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

This isn't a session where an adult tells you what you should do with your life.

And you don't need to impress me, have a five-year plan or already know what career you want. We are going to get curious: about what interests you, about what works for you, about what doesn't, about the kind of life you might want to build and about some possibilities you may not have considered yet.

You remain the author of what happens next.

FOR PARENTS

Support them without writing the story for them.

One of the hardest parts of supporting a young person through education and early adulthood is knowing when to guide — and when to create enough space for them to discover their own answers.

Future Compass gives them somewhere independent to think. The purpose is not to remove parents from important decisions. Nor is it to hand a teenager complete responsibility for decisions they are not yet ready to make.

It is to help the young person become an increasingly informed participant in their own life. That means developing the self-knowledge, language and confidence to say:

This matters to me.
This seems to suit me.
This doesn't.
I would like to explore this further.
I don't know yet — but I know what I need to find out.

For younger clients, parents or carers remain part of the wider process. Where helpful and agreed in advance, a parent can contribute relevant context and join a short part of the conversation. But the central space belongs to the young person.

Because eventually, the life being designed has to become theirs.

WHAT HAPPENS?

before

You will complete a short questionnaire so I can begin understanding where you are now, what decisions or questions are present and what you would most like to get from the session.

I prepare for our meeting in advance so that our time together can go beyond the surface.

During

We spend approximately 90 minutes together, exploring who you are, what matters, how you work best, where you feel stuck and the worlds or possibilities worth investigating.

The conversation is individual and exploratory rather than a fixed assessment.

after

I bring the work together into your personalised Future Blueprint, including key observations, themes, possibilities and practical next experiments.

You leave with something more useful than a list of careers.

You leave with a better compass.

FUTURE COMPASS OR FUTURE BY DESIGN?

future compass

Future Compass is designed for someone who wants a concentrated piece of individual exploration and a clearer starting point.

future by design

Future by Design is the deeper Incharge Futures pathway, taking a young person through a more extensive process of:

Understand → Expand → Explore → Decide → Act

If the Future Compass reveals questions that deserve further exploration, you can choose to continue into Future by Design later. There is no expectation to do so.

Sometimes one conversation is enough. Sometimes the questions need more space.

The future doesn’t have to be decided all at once. It can be discovered.

One question. One experience. One experiment. One choice at a time.
